| VARNA |
Varna is the third largest city, covering an area of 205 sq.km. Its location on the North coastline of Black sea, as well as the rich natural resources make it one of the most famous resorts in Europe and the biggest city in the Black sea region. Together with this it is a point of intersection of the way between the Middle East and West Europe.
The climate and the natural conditions create good opportunities for the development of industry, commerce, tourism and communications in the region. Varna is the ideal place for the investors who want to develop their activities in the Bolcan region.
The geographical position and the existing infrastructure have been determining the favourable development of the city for ages. The well arranged water and cargo transport determine the city's aspect as a point of intersection of the connection between the East and the West.
There are three main factors which determine the city's infrastructure organization: Varna port, Varna International Airport and the telecommunication network.
Varna port's General plan is very-well worked out and updated, approved in February 1999, which plan is at the root of its investment programme. Investors are searched for the construction of three new terminals: Ro-Ro, a grain terminal and a container terminal. Preliminary investigations were carried out in connection with the possibilities of the construction of these terminals. According to the updated General plan there should be constructed two new terminals in Port Varna West - a terminal for liquid chemical substances and a terminal for cement and clinker.
Varna International Airport is connected directly with the economic situation in the city and the region. It serves mainly tourist companies and carries out regular and charter flights to more than 35 countries and 101 cities. In order to fulfuil its main priorities which are safety of flights and high quality services, the port needs considerable investments together with a new General paln, drawn up by an internetinally acknowledged company. Introduction of a new system SAT II is coming in the near future concerning take-off and landing of aircrafts in bad weather conditions which will contribute to the raising of the authority of the airport on the international air market together with the construction of new platforms and runways for aircrafts type Boing 767.
Besides the port, the international airport and the good railway and road transport connections, Varna has one of the best telecommunication networks. 472 telephone lines falls upon every 1000 residents which makes our country one of the leaders in Central and East Europe. As of this moment there are three digital telephone exchanges of the highest technological class of the companies Siemens and Ericsson. The sampling degree of the telecommunication network is 21.7% compared to 7.8% for the rest of the country. There are two international optical rings made in Varna: KAFOS - connecting Varna, Istanbul /Turkey/ and Mangalia /Romania/, and also connecting the telecommunication infrastructures of Bulgaria and the European countries; BSFOCS - optical cable, connecting Varna, Odessa /Ukraine/ and Novorossiysk.
